Lesson: 28 - Slide Transition & Animation

Purpose: Learn to create rich Open office presentations Animation, slide transition and sound.

Computer or Laptop, Open Office, and a few pictures of birds.

Prior knowledge

Students should be familiar with doing the following on OpenOffice Impress before doing the exercise.

  • Properties or Formatting Tool.
  • Insert picture.
  • Tamil or English typing.
  • To know how to present using ‘Impress’.

Exercise:1



1. Create a presentation of Birds names with pictures using ‘Tamil Bamini’.

  1. Type the names of the birds in Tamil.
  2. Use the 'Font Work Gallery’ to improve the appearance of the text.
  3. Insert pictures into the presentation.
  4. Apply custom animation to the texts and pictures.
  5. Apply slide transitions and sounds.

    Teachers's Instructions
    1. Create a folder named "Birds" in your PC and download images of a few birds in that folder and make them available for the students while doing the exercises.
    2. Even if it takes time, make the Students to type the text.
    3. Allow the Students to watch the solution.odp with the solution.odt.
    4. While teaching use the words “bold”, “Properties”, “Master pages”, “Custom animation” and “Slide transition” etc.
    5. Show them that Google input tools is another way to input tamil. Show them how the Tamil text appears in normal fonts (say arial or calibri) when typed in Bamini vs. Google input tools. Ask them to think why that is so. Basically, Bamini only stores normal English keyboard characters and reconstructs them to appear as Tamil. Whereas Google input tools stores Tamil character codes in Unicode (2 bytes per character).
